Auckland Downtown Ferry Terminal

Metspray provided in-shop and onsite abrasive blasting and coating services to 6 pontoons and 3 gangways, coating internal voids and external areas for immersion and above sea level, including the walkways and substructures. An end-to-end solution was provided and as this was critical infrastructure for Auckland Transport, all work was subject to multiple third party inspections.

The steelwork was pre-blasted and a holding primer applied to assist in the extended fabrication time. Once the pontoons were fabricated, they were transported to a custom built double skinned shelter that was fully environmentally controlled to prevent delays to the coating schedule. Once fully coated and signed off, the pontoons were lowered into the water by crane and floated from Whangarei to the Auckland Downtown Ferry Terminal for installation.
